Is this really the image of Jesus Christ?

Is this really the image of Jesus Christ? - Watch Discovery on April 12th Printer friendly version Check out the trailer for a new documentary set to challenge scientific claims that The Shroud of Turin is a fake, here on inthenews.co.uk. ...........

The Shroud of Turin – an ancient burial cloth that many claim bears the image of Jesus Christ – is one of the most controversial historical artefacts on Earth. Despite scientists declaring it a medieval fake, an investigation has uncovered compelling new insights that are set to reopen the debate into its authenticity.........

The new findings are being revealed in an exciting one-off TV documentary called The Shroud: New Evidence, airing on the Discovery Channel this Easter Sunday...........

In 1988 a team of scientists forming the Shroud of Turin Research Project (STRP) radiocarbon dated the Shroud and concluded it was fake, dating back to the Middle Ages (1290-1360), long after Jesus was crucified.

However new evidence revealed in the documentary claims the 1988 radiocarbon dating could be inaccurate – as the test sample that was used had been taken from a section of the Shroud that had been repaired in the 16th Century, therefore skewing the results.

The debate into one of the great enduring mysteries of all time is set to be reopened once again.............

What do you guys think? Char :)

Turin Shroud 'could be genuine as carbon-dating was flawed'
Last Updated: 6:08PM BST 10 Apr 2009

Radio carbon dating carried out in 1988 was performed on an area of the relic that was repaired in the 16th century, according to Ray Rogers, who helped lead the Shroud of Turin Research Project (STRP).

At the time he argued firmly that the shroud, which bears a Christlike image, was a clever forgery.

But in a video made shortly before his death three years ago, he said facts had come to light that indicated the shroud could be genuine.

Rogers, a chemist from the Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico, said: "I don't believe in miracles that defy the laws of nature. After the 1988 investigation I'd given up on the shroud.

"But now I am coming to the conclusion that it has a very good chance of being the piece of cloth that was used to bury the historic Jesus."

He came to his conclusion after re-examining a theory from two amateur scientists that he had earlier dismissed as being from "the lunatic fringe".

Hi john72ss!

Yes, you would think they should have known that . As in this case, that Roger's man had a motive.......at the beginning he wanted to prove he was right. Char :)

Pope confirms visit to Shroud of Turin; new evidence on shroud emerges

A recent study by French scientist Thierry Castex has revealed that on the shroud are traces of words in Aramaic spelled with Hebrew letters.

A Vatican researcher, Barbara Frale, told Vatican Radio July 26 that her own studies suggest the letters on the shroud were written more than 1,800 years ago......

There is a documentary explaining the facts on it, within it a forensic pathologist explains what the person would have suffered, so its amazing that people will glorify another persons suffering.

Hi wizanda!

I understand exactly what you are saying here. However, it is not the glorifying of the actual suffering, it is the glorifying of the fact that Jesus died for us...our sins and so that we could become closer to God. Jesus experienced the manisfestation of God's hatred of sin in that terrible hour. That suffering that Jesus endured was due to us.......and the fact and fact alone is the only thing that can save one from eternal death.

2 Corinthians 5:21
21 God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

Jesus became sin for us. As the Bible states he felt the loneliness and abandonment that sin always produces. Except in this case it was not his sin.......it was ours.

John 12:23
23Jesus replied, "The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified.

Hi Char,

I saw the show. I've seen prior shows as well as read about the shroud. I think it's legit. I think God left hard evidence for us of the most profound event in human history. As technology continues to progress scientist are realizing that there was no way this could be faked. Plus, carbon dating is a flawed science.

How can things be legit if they tell about a historically non-proven figure?

Anyone ever found the 'remains' of Jesus Christ? If he roamed the earth he would've left his marks all over the place?

I hope one day a scientist discovers a petrified turd and goes: "We found out from DNA extractings that this piece of crap was made by JC..." Hurray! "Therefor we proclaim the shroud of Turin is real!"

I think the shroud is a clever man-made fashion garment from which they cut off the H&M label.

Hi Lupus!

As far as I know, Jesus is pretty much historically proven. I looked this up a long time ago. If you are not counting the Bible, which is God's word that totally proves Jesus's existence. There is many other historcal sources (non Christian) that proved his existence:

1)First-century Roman Tacitus
2)Flavius Josephus is the most famous Jewish historian
3)Julius Africanus
4)Pliny the Younger,
5)The Babylonian Talmud
6)Lucian of Samosata
7)Mara Bar-Serapion

These are a few that are non biased. If you look up what they have to say.......In summary, they all basically say there was a man named Jesus who was also called Christ, did 'magic', led Israel into new teachings, was hanged on Passover for them in Judea. He also claimed to be God and would return, which his followers believed, worshipping him as God.

There is overwhelming evidence for Jesus in biblical history and non biblical history. Char :)

Hi cd3000!

I agree with you. From what I read, I think is is legit as well. However, if you look at the big picture, even if they proved that it belonged to Jesus. I don't think it would change non believers minds anyway, because faith in Jesus does not rely upon things like that, I think. Char :)

ehm, yeah, no, not embarrassed. Watch the shows, read the books. If you understand the science of what is actually burned on the cloth and how it was burned on there then you'd understand that no mason, templar or cavalier would be able to achieve that image.

godfire777, you live in Italy? Beautiful place. I lived there for a couple of years myself. Great memories.

yeah, it is nice here in italy:-)...thanks.
where did you stay here? i m in north part actually.

the image in turin...believe me they can fake even better. Many times they do such things just for confusing or for attracting tourists, or for propaganda of religious symbols. I believe in God, believe in Jesus. But i'm sorry, i don't believe in image in turin, nostradamus, the stories about renee chateau, lourdes and so on...i'm sure that they all are fake stories. However the time will show where was the truth. Every secret sooner or later comes out, nothing remains under earth forvever

http://www.rumormillnews.com/cgi-bin/ar ... read/18771

now they are trying to catch 2 birds by one shot using the shroud: there already thousands of suspects regarding the real origin, duties and secrets of templars. The ex templars now are the Rosenkrutz secret society members which includes also the cavaliers of malta. It is not secret that they have found many hundreds years ago in Jerusalemme something important and then they have been dismissed by Pope. Pope created the templars, sent them to Jerusalemme to pick up something important, secret and then the same Pope dismissed them even killing, arresting or pushing out of country...it is just the official story that goes around. But actually the templars were not dismissed. It was just a show for the people who shouldn't know what was going on, what the templars went to pick up in Jerusalemme and to who they gave it. It must be something important. They normally call it saint Graal. It is something much more important than a simple shroud with Jesus image. It is not about a material thing, but it is a power, it is one of the important puzzle pieces in humanity story...the old vatican trial documents say that the templars were satanists, they were adoring Baphomet...now the same vatican tries to justify the templars.
http://www.city-data.com/forum/christia ... hroud.html
This way the vatican wants to convnce everybody that the shroud is authentic and that the templars were not so bad at the end. it is ridiculous...do you really believe that the templars, old mason cavaliers would worship a shroud or die for a piece of shroud?...they were not stupid, they were not as ignorant as the simple people. They were well informed, intriduced into the so called forbidden knowledges. So now this effort by vatican trying to move the attention of people from the real Graal is really ridiculous. The templars did adore Baphomet, it is not a secret and until now they use these idols in their rites. They are satanists, they don't acceot God, Jesus. They didn't accept him for a long time until it was not possible to forbid the teaching of Jesus, cause the people was following His doctrine even under the death circumstances. So what did the babilonian fraternity do? they apparently accepted Jesus, but modified his doctrine badly, adapted it to the old pagan roman and greek faiths, symbols and they founded the roman church which should keep under control the population believing in Jesus. You see how genoius is that plan? so they have the trust of the cristians and they can also manipulate the cristians by the central church. Now, if the vatican will continue confirming that the templars were satainsts believing in baphomet, it may turn against vatican sooner or later. Once somebody can start to suspect that actually vatican also was against Jesus and so his faithful templars were just worshiping the real idol of vatican - baphomet...that's why they now try to play on the "shroud" card. However, by my opinion it can't work for a long time. I 'm sure that soon the truth will come out. I'm just curious what they will invent or say at that point, how they will go out from that fake story. I'm sorry if there are any catholics reading this post. It is not my intent to offend anybody across the suspects on vatican. Actually myself i should be a catholic, eheheheehe:-)))) :) but i don't trust vatican by a long time already. There are many things making upset the catholics in vatican, especially in italy every year there are less and less people following the Pope...it happens cause they say a lot of lies, they support the wars, they live in luxury while thousands of children die every day of sickness, hunger and so on...anyway, sorry, i don't wanna go off topic.
wanted just to tell my opinion.
good luck with researches...

You know when you think about it, it doesn't make much sense, how is a piece of cloth supposed to last 2000 years, wouldn't it be in bits by now; they say it was folded and stored, yet that would imply air tight for a very long time not to have decayed... :?
Some bits of the image make sense like the eagle eyebrow line, showing his way of thinking was open minded; which is allot more then the Leonardo Da Vinci image.
