International space station for exploration and experamentation? I think not. I have always wondered why we (USA) and all the other countries put so much money and effort into the international space station. I was watching a television show the other day about space and it just came to me. The space station is just a "life boat" for the diffulcult times ahead. The safest place to be would be space. It makes perfect sense. The station is far enough away from earth so it can be observed and watch the progress of the very few survivors. Then when it safe after who knows how many years, whoever is on the station will be able to return to earth. Who is going to be on the station to ride out 2012?? Not you and I!! Im sure it will be high power government officials, scientists, doctors and anyone else the government (NWO) feels appropriate. Along with the people will come seeds, grains, eggs, and sperm, etc. No need to save a million people when you can save a billion in a test tube. I remember that they were always talking about the space station all the time. Here recently you rarely hear anything about it. This my be way off from the truth, tell me what you guys and gals think.

Your theory makes sense FirehouseMedic and I wouldn't doubt that is what the government is planning on doing!

"No need to save a million people when you can save a billion in a test tube."

Exactly. I really actually don't care as long as:

1) The human race lives on.

2) Those humans continue to make video games.

If these people are up there and 2012 happens, how will they return to Earth and where will they land? Please don't say they will land in the ocean and be picked up by a nuclear sub.

You know what, thats an interesting theory. Though Im not sure how practical the space station is as a life boat. Its too small to produce its own food and its recycling capabilities are VERY dependent on all its systems working at 100% all the time. They'd actually be safer building a base on the moon;

A) has gravity.
B) base can have huge stores on it depending on how big you build it.
C) Rock gives much better protection from radiation and other environmental hazzards.
D) Moon bases are very cool sci-fi ;)

But relalistically, having a bunker in a mountain somewhere would be way cheaper and probably safer in the long run. Or like the umbrella corporation in those resident evil movies where its like a mile underground and huge.

Hell the Rothechild family is worth something like 7-14 TRILLIAN!!!! dollars. Im pretty sure they could have a sweet bunker for that kinda money. And there are places on the earth where there are NO humans. Build a bunker there and no one will find you.

Doesn't anyone remember what happened to Moonbase Alpha?

Lol, the thing is, when the massive solar storms from the sun come down to Earth, the International Space Station could be blown to pieces, because of the force and solar radiation. I don't know if the station has protection or anything, but the flares are going to be huge :?

The Space Station is in Orbit! Hello. That means when the earth stops rotating it will lose it's orbital velocity and will crash to earth. No one is going to survive in the space station.

how many people do you think can fit inside the station? And with that many people, needs food, water, air. not enough room,

why would the earth stop rotating? because of nibu? it would hit the space station

The ISS? Save anyone? That's laughable. The ISS's orbit will degrade so much it would be suicide to set foot on it in 2012, it will only be around us until 2012, in 2013, it will fall into our atmosphere. The best way to go, if we're to escape to space is to make a colony of sorts, I've heard of them before, but, unfortunately, one that could hold 2.5 million people would take around 50 yrs to make...:(

Now, The space station is not big enough for that. But what people for get it

1. dose have the Soyuz escape vehicle
2. and the iss dose have thrusters. so i could stay in orbit.

But I don't think it is going to be used as a life boat. I think like some one else has said the moon would be a better place. And I believe there is one on the moon.

That thing is up there for a Reason ! Not just goofy little test exp's that they supposidly test all the time.

They build on to it all the time ,as we know.

Would it be for the top of the Highest officials ? Probably ?
Who are they ?

I know one thing , the station is going to have one hell of a view in 2012.

We should all place a bet to see what date the shuttle launches in December 2012.
Are they bugging out ? Why ?

The ISS is up there for a lot of reasons; however, it cannot be likened to a life boat in any way. If the coming date of 12/21/2012 is going to be welcomed with a magnetic polar shift of the sun and we have a huge solar reaction to it, as has been postulated by Kaku and a large number of the astro-physicists at NASA, the station isn't going to be a very good place to be.

Storage of DNA samples wouldn't be viable because of the sheer amount of radiation involved, especially if there is a large CME event. The crew of the ISS will be cooked alive in less than a minute in their own juices, the interior of the station will become an oven. The internal gyro-scopes will malfunction and the construct will begin to lose orbital height pretty quickly because the automated systems will fail with the fried computer systems.

It ain't a life boat.

The planet also will not stop spinning and draw the critter down either, it will come down on it's own in any case over time. The thing only has a 50 year orbital life I think I read once.

It IS there for experiments in manufacture in a micro-gravity environment. It IS there for the study of weather patterns from orbit. It IS there to test long term effects on human bodies. It IS there for communications monitoring of the planet. It IS there for a staging platform for longer duration missions further out to the rest of the system.

It ISN'T there as a life boat for a select few highly trained personnel to babysit a stockpile of genetic samples from the rest of the race and other creatures on the planet.

It isn't big enough to be a gene bank.

There does come a point where theories can become a bit too far afield from what is truly at issue.

The ISS is a huge waste of resources in the manner it has been, and is being, constructed. There are other ways that are more efficient and practical. Unfortunately, the engineers at NASA wouldn't dare look to old Sci-Fi for a proper wheel station for spun up artificial gravity. They believe it is too simple.

But that is neither here nor there, the point is the ISS is mostly exactly what it is billed as.
