Does anyone really think that we can close our CONTUS land borders to the north or south? Maybe if POTUS recalls all of our over -seas armed forces and stations them on land routes north and south of CONTUS, perhap the Govt could begin closing our borders. However, being that we have an ocean to our East and West, complete lock down of the CONTUS is imposible. I'm just being realistic here. Look at the flow of illegal narcotics and aliens that continue to flow from every border crossing that CONTUS has.

We could technologically close the borders if we wanted to.

OK, technically perhaps, trade, banking, commerce, (all the things that makes the world go round). But physicaly, it's not possible. Perhaps a preamble to an attempt is the delay in reinforcing our patriots serving overseas in places like Afganistan among other far flong regions of the world that never make it on to CNN, FOX, MSNBC, or other news networks.

I guess physically closing the borders is a question of what to do with intruders. Constitutionally, there should be no question that shoot to kill is a no no. However, the Constitution is a piece of paper that lays down our guiding principles. It can and has been ignored or misunderstood, as the founding fathers understood it would (hence the need for the Supreme Court).

We can "hit a bullet with a bullet". In fact, we are getting to the point where we can hit the bullseye on a bullet with a bullet. Ignoring due process (without debate as to if illegals are even entitled to such), we can physically close the borders.

The US Military can not close all of our borders. Land, Sea, or Air. Period!

You might be right, based on the tools that the military currently has (and those tools will become antiquated and scarcer as the Obama administration and those behind it focus on their world view). To say that we cannot, though is ignoring the amazing technology that could be at our disposal. We could end the wars in Afghanistan, Iraq and elsewhere in the blink of an eye. Since every action results in a reaction, we won't do that, however (and it's probably preferable that we don't).

Would our borders be closed spontaneously? No!! People could dig tunnels, planes not equipped with RFIDs (or other identification technology) that get through could land in open fields, etc. That's where effective deterrence comes in.

As for the narcotics and illegal aliens entering the country, the government has no desire to stop this!!
