Transformation 2012
by: Lisa Larue

Award-winning keyboardist Lisa LaRue has released her fifth album, titled "Transformation 2012" on November 15, 2008. The title is derived from the Mayan calendar, of which ends December 12, 2012.

"Many people suppose this to be the end of the world," said LaRue. "However, the Mayan elders teach that it is simply a transformation into a new age, and it's how we handle such change that mandates the outcome."

LaRue has always had an interest in educating others about indigenous teachings; she is a tribal member of the federally-recognized United Keetoowah Band of Cherokee Indians in Oklahoma. Her debut CD, titled "Beloved Tribal Women," was produced by Will Alexander (Keith Emerson, Herbie Hancock, Jeff Lorber, etc.) and included educational information about numerous native women. She also serves as a historian for her tribe, and is the 2008 Oklahoma Music Awards' "Native American Artist of the Year."

"Transformation 2012" boasts a single release titled "Save Me," with vocals by John Payne (of "Asia" featuring John Payne), as well as guest appearances by others. These include progressive electric violinist James Sudakow, former Blue Oyster Cult keyboardist Tommy Zvoncheck, the British experimental project Sinu Spiral, and cedar flutist Kerri Lake. Also credited on the CD is drummer Bill Bruford.

"The Bruford work is unique, in that Bill had already recorded the tracks, but gave me permission to credit him on the liner notes, styled as Bill Bruford (Studio Profile)," LaRue said. While it is becoming increasingly common for known musicians to provide tracks for production, but artist permission for a credit makes for a more personal involvement.

"No voice other than John Payne could have conveyed the emotions of 'Save Me'," stated LaRue "I am honored John chose to do this song, as I have always admired his talent and creativity." Payne accepted the collaboration proposal earlier this summer on a track completely penned by LaRue.

LaRue is also a nominee in the "Instrumental" category for the 2008 Hollywood Music Awards, which will take place November 20 at the infamous Highlands in Hollywood, and is also appearing on the Progressive Rock Hall of Fame's compilation CD, "Soundscapes."

"Transformation 2012" will be available through CDBaby, as well as through LaRue's website at www.lisalaruemusic.com
